There was a blurb on this subject in the WINGS book, but it's so cool to see it come to life here. Back in the 20s the Transcontinental Airway System installed giant arrows along establish cross country routes to aid pilots traveling from coast to coast. Today not many of these wondrous landmarks remain, but this article points out (pun intended) the ones that are still around.
Check it out! It's pretty amazing where some of these things are: Backyards in suburban Minneapolis, the middle of the New Mexico desert, a farm in Kansas etc.
Speaking of which, who wants to go search for one of these things?
