So this story popped up on my facebook and I thought it was too cool not to share. For the first time in the 69 year history of the Blue Angels, they had a female pilot in the cockpit! Captain Katie Higgins flew her first public flight as a Blue Angel at the Beaufort Air Show in South Carolina this weekend. Higgins is a Marine Corps Captain, graduate of the Naval Academy, and a third-generation military aviator. As a Blue Angel, Higgins will travel the country for eight months out of the year doing airshows and aerial stunts that sometimes have the pilots flying within inches of each other! Overall she's a very inspiring person who is proud of the fact that she made the Blue Angels for her skill and not merely her gender. Here's what she had to say about making history: "I think by including a lady on the team, that just shows little girls and guys that women can do whatever they put their mind to. Little girls have told that they didn't even know that ladies could fly aircraft, that women could be in the cockpit."
