When I was in the third grade we lived in Las Vegas, Nevada because my dad was stationed at Nellis AFB. All kinds of cool stuff happens at Nellis: it's right next to various "Areas" and the Thunderbirds are based there. Well one day, my mom was driving my siblings and I somewhere and we saw this weird shape flying over the mountains. It looked like a giant bat or a "V" or something. Just as we were making an "it's a UFO" joke, it DISAPPEARED! We all freaked out and were convinced that we'd just seen aliens! When we got home and told my dad he burst our bubble and told us it was just the new B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. The B-2 was designed to be as invisible as possible: it is extremely difficult to pick up on radar, has cool infrared-resistant paint, and when it is flying level it is almost completely flat. That's why it seemed to vanish when we saw it pulling out of a turn. As it turns out we weren't the only ones who it looked alien--every time they flew it the base would get dozens of UFO reports! This is my one alien story and also the reason why the B-2 is one of my favorite planes.
