As I was reading Wings and the author was talking about how the aviation race overtook the world in the beginning of the 20th century the only thing I could think about was the Pixar movie Up. I hadn't realized that Carl's (the main character, for those of you that haven't seen it) dream of flying his house to South America came from growing up during this era. He was more fascinated with balloon ships rather than gliders, but that's what makes this movie so absurd, that he flies his house with balloons. I can now appreciate this movie more now that I know about the time period that Carl comes from. And if you haven't watched it, I recommend it! It will tug on your heart strings though, you have been warned...
I loved this movie and you are right. Have a box of tissues handy.
ReplyDeleteI never thought of it that way! I don't know if I'll be able to watch it again though because last time I just cried the whole way through!!
